Trump says Iran will 'pay the price' for prolonged talks

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump slammed Iran for not reaching a quick peace deal with the U.S. after a night of attacks that have strained a fragile two-month truce.
“They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price,” Trump wrote Wednesday on his social-media platform.
In the moments after the post landed, U.S. equity futures moved lower, yields jumped along with oil and the dollar also rose. Those moves have since eased to an extent.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the president’s statement meant he was planning to scrap the ceasefire. For weeks, he has whipsawed between saying an end to the war is imminent and threatening to resume full-scale attacks.
Trump’s comments came after the two sides exchanged strikes overnight, days after a U.S. Apache helicopter was downed in the region. The U.S. accused Iran of the attack, which Tehran has not confirmed.
The renewed action has strained the ceasefire and risked negotiations to end the conflict that Trump has repeatedly declared essentially over.
